One of the failings of a Vitara (apart from the front axle being made of old coke cans!) is the rear brakes... they fill up with mud, which acts as a cutting paste!, and the handbrake is errrr... useless, and that's an understatment!

Enter Muddyzook and their Vitara rear disk brake kit, this allows the fitting of Vitara front disks on the rear, you can either use either the front Vitara calipers, or the kit I chose utilises the calipers from a Rover 600/800, so that you can still use the handbrake.

Contents of the kit - 2 x Caliper Hangers, 4 x Caliper Bolts, 2 x Brake Disc Mounts, 2 x Hand Brake Cable Router, 2 x Replacement Hand Brake Quadrants, 2 x Cable End Adapters Sets and 8 x Nyloc Nuts. I had mine powder coated black before fitment -

I can't profess to having the skills to fit the kit, I have no idea about bleeding brakes, and wanted it all to be super-safe, so I handed my Vitara over to Les at KTC in Wrexham, for him to fit the disk brake kit whilst he was also fitting a pair of Calmini LSDs for me(Limited Slip Differentials) which involves, obviously, pulling the rear driveshafts out, so I thought Les might as well do the disk brakes at the same time ;)

So these are completed pictures rather than in progress...

Rover calipers on a Vitara front disk, utilising a conversion plate which replaces the drum.

Looking down over the disk you can see the Rover Caliper mated into Vitara's brake lines using a small flexy hose, notice also the black bracket going up the centre of the picture, more on that in a moment...

There it is again, the bracket allows the standard Vitara handbrake cables to be reused to pull on the handbrake part of the Rover calipers... clever Huh?

Many thanks to Muddyzook for the conversion kit, and to Les @ KTC for fitting it... cheers Guys! I now have brakes.... that work! And a handbrake... on a Vitara ;) LOL
